Welcome

Welcome to Breakdown's Blog! It's lovely to have you here.

This is the space where we will share all of the extra info we can't squeeze in anywhere else, as well as extra updates about what we're working on. Get ready for juicy deep-dives into life in academia, guides on how to survive uni, extra insights into our research, and more besides. We'll be adding more content very soon, so make sure you're following us on Instagram and Twitter to be the first to know.

To get the ball rolling, Rachel and Beth have each picked a favourite quote which summarises why we founded Breakdown in the first place, and why we're so excited to bring you more accessible educational content.

First up, Beth's favourite by the Black British historian, David Olusoga:

To those accustomed to privilege, equality can feel like oppression. And to nations accustomed to hearing only comforting myths of exceptionalism, simple irrefutable historical fact can sound like slander.

"Cultural warriors attacking 'woke' history care little for truth. It's all political theatre" - David Olusoga in The Observer, 24 January 2021.

Rachel's choice is from the trans scientist and activist, Brigitte Baptiste:

It's time to reject homogeneity and make room for a real diversity... It's time to build a version more joyful, more fun, and most beautiful of nature. Because there is nothing more queer than nature.

"Nothing more queer than nature" - Brigitte Baptiste for TEDxRiodelaPlata, November 2018.
